This painting is an interpretation of the original oil on canvas painted by Ludolf Backhuysen that is on display at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.
The curiosity for this study was to work the texturing of the sea and clouds to determine how close the acrylics could emulate the oils. The focus was on enhancing the clouds and the ocean to the extent of enlightening it to make it more appealing. The painting captures a portion of the original – that area which the eye is naturally drawn to.
